CITY OF CENTERVILLE
REQUEST FOR
COUNCIL ACTION
9:otu
Agenda Item #
Department:
Requested Council Meeting Date:
WS 3
Engineering/Public Works
July 22, 2020
TITLE OF ISSUE:
Water Treatment - Manganese
BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
The city of Lino Lakes is considering the construction of a Water Treatment Plant to remove Manganese from
their water in response to recent information released by the MN Department of Health. While Manganese is
not a regulated substance in our drinking water, recent research suggests that infants under 1 year of age should
have water with levels below 100 ppb (parts per billion) and adults should have levels below 300 ppb. Lino
Lakes has levels in excess of both of these thresholds in most of their wells. The treatment plant would lower
those levels below 100 ppb. Lino Lakes staff has approached Centerville to ask if we are interested in being a
part of the Water Treatment Plant Project. Centerville's Manganese levels are between 100 and 300 ppb in both
of our wells. We will have a preliminary discussion on the options the city has if it wishes to address this issue.
COST AND SOURCE(S) OF FUNDING:
Potential cost to Centerville +/- $4 Million
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION:
No formal action required.
For Clerk's Use:
SUPPORTED DOCUMENTS ATTACHED
Motion By:
Resolution Ordinance Contract Minutes Plan Map
Second By:
Vote Record: Ave Nay
] Lakso
Love
Wilharber
Koski
Other (specify) Water Test results, MDH onfo on Manganese
Montain
Administration Department Use:
Refer to:
Consent
Tabled Until:
Regular
Other:
