<br />CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />ANOKA COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br /> <br />ORDINANCE##_ <br />SECOND SERIES <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CllAPfER30 OF THE CENTERVILLE CITY CODE <br />BY AMENDING SECrION 30.02 RELATING TO MAYOR AND COUNCIL <br /> <br />THE CITY OF CENTERVlLLE ORDAINS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Code Section 30.02 shall be amended by adding sections (E) and (F) as <br />follows: <br /> <br />(E) Duties of Mayor. The mayor sball preside at meetings of the council and sball have a <br />vote as a member, except that the council shall choose from its members a mayor pro <br />tern who shall hold office at the pleasure of the council and sball serve as mayor in <br />case of the mayor's disability or absence. The mayor shall exercise aU powers and <br />perform aU duties conferred and imposed upon the mayor by ordinances of the city <br />and the laws of the state. The mayor sball be recognized as the head of city <br />government for aU ceremonial purposes, by the courts for serving civil process, and <br />by the governor for purposes of marital law, but shall have no administrative duties <br />unless specifica1ly ordained. The mayor may deliver messages to the council and the <br />public, including a comprehensive message on the 9Jlnua1 state of the city. <br /> <br />(FJ Duties of the Council The council, including the mayor sitting as presiding officer of <br />the council shall, shall exercise all powers and perform. aU duties conferred and <br />imposed upon its members by ordinances of the city and the laws of the state. <br />Consistent with the responsibilities to accept considerable leadership over the general <br />conduct of city affairs, the members sball study the operations of the city goveiiu:nent, <br />and recommend desirable changes and improvements to the council. To that end the <br />members must perform. all of the duties of office including but not limited to <br />attendance at all regular and special meetings to the council, and aU atteNIant and <br />supporting duties such as service on, or liaison to committees of city government or <br />city services, serving as public representatives of the city, and by generally educating <br />themselves about the affairs of government by listening and responding to members <br />of the community. <br /> <br />Section 2. Eff'edive Date.
