I was thinking that the initiative certainly promotes outdoor activity, exercise and creativity. I’ve
attached the program guidelines for your review. We are also planning a volunteer appreciation event at the end of the
year to help build a sense of community, centered around volunteerism.

The program expenses will be 7 rain barrels @$79 each = $553, plus $100/garden for each participant to use as they
choose (mulch, flowers, potting soil, etc.). We have 10 gardens that will be tended, so we could have up to $1000 in
expenses (some of the gardens have access to a hose, or existing rain barrels, that’s why we are only buying 7 rain
barrels).

While we aren’t targeting a specific demographic, typically, we would expect many of our volunteers to be retirees who
have the time to dedicate to such an endeavor.

Let me know if there’s any other info you need in order to figure out if this fits one of your programs. Thanks.

p.s. we are lining up vendors for the Main Street Market, but are still missing an anchor vendor with traditional farmers
market produce, etc. I’ve contacted the two right down the road on the south end of town and am hoping at least one
of them will participate.

From: Erin N. This may likely be something SHIP can fund. Can you provide a bit more detail in how this
project will unfold, that way I can determine which SHIP strategy area this may fit under? Are the monument gardens
mostly flowers/non-edible plants or do they include herbs/vegetables for citizens to pick and consume? What are your
thoughts around sustainability and promotion for this project? We could focus on promoting well-being through this
project as that’s one of our SHIP strategy areas. How can we promote the well-being component of this to your
audience? Lastly, is this focused on a specific population?

I’m curious, how are things going with the farmers market?

I’m happy to chat this through over the phone if you’d prefer too. I think this could be a great well-being opportunity!
1
