Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve Maintenance Facility Sewer Hook-up
County parks staff has contacted the city requesting an extension of their sewer service to
some new office space at their maintenance facility in the regional park. The facility
would simply hook to the existing sewer line serving other buildings in the park. City
staff is evaluating what hook-up charges or amendments to existing agreements may be
needed, if any.
PUBLIC WORKS/STREETS
Spring Thaw
Staff has been busy hammering down curb stops that spring up like a tulip in the
driveway.
Street Sweeping
The city contracts with the city of Hugo to do our street sweeping. They give us very
friendly rates, far lower than we could find on the open market and less expensive than
renting equipment. They will begin sweeping on Saturday, 4/5. They will continue
sweeping on Sunday and finish up with evening shifts throughout the coming week until
the job is done.

PARKS
Committee Vacancy
The parks committee now has two open seats. We have one identified candidate and are
hopeful she will join the committee next month.
Long Range Capital Improvement Plan
Staff will be completing an evaluation of our existing park equipment in the next month
or so to help us plan a replacement schedule, leading to a more informed decision on
capital outlay budgeting.
The Parks and Recreation Committee also reviewed information from The Tony Hawk
Foundation, on the latest industry trends for skate parks. The representative from the
foundation encouraged us to look at replacing our aging equipment with a poured-in-
place skate park. The new style is more durable, lower maintenance and safer. Staff will
work on getting some ballpark costs to be able to add this to our Capital Improvement
Plan.
Waterski Shows
The Parks Committee agreed to take on a new event, piggybacking on the Thursday night
shows put on by the Bald Eagle Waterski Club. The event does not yet have a name, but
would involve a food truck or two and a handful of vendors set up in Cornerstone Park on
Thursday evenings. We are hopeful that this can bring more people downtown during the
summer, building on the draw of the waterski shows and creating experiences for people
in the downtown area. A budget for the event has not yet been finalized, but looks to be
