City of Centerville <br />Parks and Recreation Meeting Minutes <br />January 5, 2022 <br />1. 21-008: Skate Park TABLED TO MARCH <br />Administrator Statz stated that he has received several emails from individuals that utilize the Wheels <br />Park, are very interested and excited about the possibility for improvements/replacements for the park, <br />similar to Shoreview's Skate Park. He also stated that several have volunteered to assist with the project. <br />Discussion ensued regarding additional research regarding usage, expected usage if upgraded, similar <br />facilities and their usage, touring of existing skate parks throughout the metro area to ascertain their <br />amenities and usage data, and funding sources (grants, etc.). The committee felt that the timeline should <br />be data gathering this spring, obtain feedback from users, Request for Proposals with construction <br />commencing in 2023. The committee will again discuss this item in March. <br />2.a. 21-013 Skate Night — January 14" 6:00 to 9:00 pm <br />Staff designed a flyer for the two (2) Skate/Sled events for marketing. It was stated that fat tire bicycles <br />would not be available for the January event but would be available for the February event. It was also <br />stated that kick sleds and snowshoes would be provided by Wargo Nature Center for both events. <br />Discussion ensued regarding the possibility of obtaining inserts for the A -frame signs for marketing the <br />event(s) in time for the January event. Administrator Statz will organize the receipt of untreated pallets <br />for the bonfire from U.S. Crating. <br />Additional discussion took place regarding refreshments (hot cocoa and water), popcorn and pre- <br />packaged s'mores. Committee Member Peterson stated that the Scouts may assist with popcorn for the <br />events. Committee Members Peterson and Errickson-Grahek would be responsible for evaluation of <br />supplies for the events and Committee Member Seeley volunteered to purchase and pre-package the <br />ingredients for the s'mores, approximately 100 bags. It was stated that volunteers could arrive at the park <br />between 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. to prepare for the event(s). <br />Staff will determine/confirm the events' viability due to weather, ice conditions, etc. and post if <br />cancelation is required. <br />3. 21-007 Eagle Park Tree Clearing — Update <br />Administrator Statz stated that the City received two (2) quotes: one (1) from Langer's Tree Service <br />($6,950) with an option for stump grinding for an additional ($4,650) and one (1) from Hugo's Tree Care <br />($11,500). He stated that the quotes were to remove 30% or 83 trees from Eagle Park upon the suggestion <br />of the arborist who was on site and felt that the life cycle/growth of the existing trees would benefit from <br />thinning and cleaning of dead debris in areas were needed. Administrator Statz also stated that the quotes <br />include removal of debris and labor. The committee felt that abutting property owners and the <br />Homeowner's Association should be notified of the project and its commencement. <br />Motion made by Committee Freiermuth, seconded by Committee Member Kubat to recommend <br />to City Council approval of the quote from Langer's Tree Service in the amount not to exceed <br />$6,950 to remove 83 trees from Eagle Park.
