CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />Centerviffe <br />Agenda Item # <br />Department: <br />Requested Council Meeting Date: <br />Administration <br />February 23, 2022 <br />TITLE OF ISSUE: <br />Election to Not Waive Statutory Tort Limits <br />BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: <br />Each year, the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT) asks City Councils, as part of the <br />insurance contract renewal process to decide if they want to waive the Minnesota State statutory liability limits. <br />Those limits are $500,000 for an individual claimant and $1,500,000 for all claimants for a single incident. If <br />liability limits are waived, then the liability limit goes up to $2,000,000 per claimant and per incident. Staff is <br />proposing that the City Council elect to not waive the liability limits, just as it has in the past.
