PUBLIC SAFETY <br />Centennial Fire District <br />SBMFD Interim Fire Chief Appointment <br />With Charlie V. Smith IV’s retierement coming up, <br />the SBMFD Board of Directors has appointed <br />Deputy Chief Dan Retka to the position of Interim <br />Fire Chief! Chief Retka will be assuming the Interim <br />Chief position on March 1, 2022. Charliewill be <br />moving to an advisory/transition role, allowing staff <br />the ability to work together during the last 60 days of <br />the transition period ending May 1, 2022. <br />Congratulations Chief Retka. We appreciate your <br />continued leadership with SBMFD! <br />Interim Chief Retka <br />The Board of Directors continues their work on development of a comprehensive hiring <br />process for a new Fire Chief. <br />SBMFD Retirement Chief Smith <br />Congratulations on your retirement Charles. We <br />want to thank you for your service, and wish you all <br />the best in your future endeavors! <br />Former Ch ie f Smith has been in the Fire Service for <br />more than 31 years, spending his last six years as the <br />Fire Chief of SBMFD. Before joining SBMFD, <br />Charles worked in several other fire departments, <br />th <br />including: Cedar Rapids, IA, Eau Claire, WI, 148 <br />FW FD, Duluth, Duluth, and Lakeville. Charles is <br />also a Veteran of the MN Air National Guard where he retired in 2013 after 22 years of service. <br />After his retirement, Charles plans to spend more time with his family, and work on some <br />overdue home improvement projects. After a few months, Charles plans to explore new <br />opportunities in the area. Charles and his spouse will continue to reside in their current home. <br />Former Fire Chief Charles V. Smith IV said, “While only leading the Centennial FD since <br />August of 2021, it has been a fantastic experience getting to know the firefighters, both Cities <br />and the Steering Committee. An entirely fantastic and dedicated group of people who work <br />together to serve their communities. Centerville and Circle Pines are in great hands!!” <br />Centennial Lakes Police Department <br />Chief Mork and his staff continue to focus on keeping adequately staffed through the pandemic, <br />staggering shifts and making other adjustments to their operations. They have also been busy <br />preparing their annual report, to be presented to the Police Governing Board at an upcoming <br />meeting. <br />
