PUBLIC SAFETY Centennial Fire District SBMFD Interim Fire Chief Appointment With Charlie V. Smith IVÓs retierement coming up, the SBMFD Board of Directors has appointed Deputy Chief Dan Retka to the position of Interim Fire Chief! Chief Retka will be assuming the Interim Chief position on March 1, 2022. Charlie will be moving to an advisory/transition role, allowing staff the ability to work together during the last 60 days of the transition period ending May 1, 2022. Congratulations Chief Retka. We appreciate your continued leadership with SBMFD! Interim Chief Retka The Board of Directors continues their work on development of a comprehensive hiring process for a new Fire Chief. SBMFD Retirement Chief Smith Congratulations on your retirement Charles. We want to thank you for your service, and wish you all the best in your future endeavors! Former Chf Smith has been in the Fire Service for more than 31 years, spending his last six years as the Fire Chief of SBMFD. Before joining SBMFD, Charles worked in several other fire departments, th including: Cedar Rapids, IA, Eau Claire, WI, 148 FW FD, Duluth, Duluth, and Lakeville. Charles is also a Veteran of the MN Air National Guard where he retired in 2013 after 22 years of service. After his retirement, Charles plans to spend more time with his family, and work on some overdue home improvement projects. After a few months, Charles plans to explore new opportunities in the area. Charles and his spouse will continue to reside in their current home. Former Fire Chief Charles V. Smith IV said, ÐWhile only leading the Centennial FD since August of 2021, it has been a fantastic experience getting to know the firefighters, both Cities and the Steering Committee. An entirely fantastic and dedicated group of people who work together to serve their communities. Centerville and Circle Pines are in great hands!!Ñ Centennial Lakes Police Department Chief Mork and his staff continue to focus on keeping adequately staffed through the pandemic, staggering shifts and making other adjustments to their operations. They have also been busy preparing their annual report, to be presented to the Police Governing Board at an upcoming meeting.
