Centerville 2040 Comprehensive Plan <br /> <br />C HAPTER 5: P ARKS A ND T RAILS <br />L OCAL P ARKS <br />The City adopted a Park and Pedestrian System Comprehensive Plan in 1989, which provides <br />goals, a needs assessment, concept plans and operations and maintenance information related <br />to the local park and trail system. That document and this Plan are intended to serve as a basis <br />for decisions regarding future implementation of the City park system. <br />The plan elements reflected in the Park and Trails Plan are based on goals and polices <br />developed during the Comprehensive Plan update process. It is the goal of the City of <br />Centerville to: <br />Review and update the 1989 park and pedestrian system comprehensive plan. <br />Maintain existing trails, sidewalks, and parks equipment. <br />Provide convenient active and passive recreation opportunities that serve all the <br />residents of Centerville. <br />Build new and upgrade existing park properties and trials with ecologically sound and <br />sustainable materials, where possible. <br />Establish a biking/hiking trail system connecting city parks and residential <br />neighborhoods. <br />Provide adequate expansion of parks and recreation areas in proposed residential <br />developments. <br />Provide safe and convenient bicycle and pedestrian access to community recreation <br />facilities. <br />Utilize and preserve parks and recreation opportunities on the shores of Centerville and <br />Peltier Lakes with appropriate sustainable practices in mind. <br />Promote or provide recreational facilities and programs to serve the varied recreational <br />needs of all age groups in the City. <br />Policies reflect the position of the City on the specific implementation of the Goals. It is the <br />policy of the City of Centerville to: <br />Develop a trail access plan which provide interconnection of major parks, recreation <br />areas, schools, commercial nodes, Central Business District as well as existing and future <br />community neighborhoods and implement the plan as funding opportunities allow. <br />Design and maintain parks with proper lighting, shelter and landscaping to ensure <br />public and property safety, with sustainable practices which protect environmental <br />resources for future generations. <br />Develop land use regulations compatible with adjacent parks, recreation areas and <br />natural features. <br /> <br /> Page 64 <br /> <br />
