CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: <br />August 24, 2022 <br />Engineering <br />VIII.2 <br />TITLE OF ISSUE: <br />Bid Award - 2022 Thin Overlay Program & City Hall Parking Lot Improvements <br />BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: <br /> Four bids were received on Wednesday, August 10 at 10:00 AM for the 2022 Thin Overlay Program & City <br />Hall Parking Lot Improvements. The low bid was about 30% over the engineer's opinion of probable costs. <br />However, engineering costs are considerably lower than presented in the feasibility study, leaving a total project <br />cost which is about 18% over the anticipated amount. The city's street fund can absorb these costs increases. It <br />is uncertain as to whether or not rebidding this project in 2023 will result in lower bid prices. <br /> In an effort to determine whether or not re-bidding the project would result in lower bids, Stantec spoke with <br />representatives from contractors, suppliers and other engineers, both inside and outside their organization.
