CITY OF CENTERVILLE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: September 14, 2022 Administration/Election VII.4 TITLE OF ISSUE: Election Judge, Assistant Head Judge & Head Judge Pay BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: A study was completed in 2021 by Anoka County regarding cities' Election Judge Pay (see attached and please note that the City of Centerville is on the lower end of the pay spectrum). We generally do not have difficulty finding judges and we are fortunate to have two (2) that do not want to be paid per State Statute with letters provided ten (10) day prior to the election (Primary or General). Per State Statute, we must have no less than three (3) judges serving on Primary Election Day and no less than four (4) on General Election Day per population/precinct. Staff recommends eight (8) at any given time with the exception of the Primary Election where less voters are served. Attached is Res. #21-025, Pay Plan for 2022 for reference. Staff recommends increasing the pay from $10.25/hr to $15/hr similar to P & R Secretary and P-T Custodian with a slightly high pay for the Head Judge who requires additional training and has more responsibilities of $.50 for $15.50/hr. COST AND SOURCE(S) OF FUNDING: $2,288.50 (9 X $15/hr for 15 hrs. & 1 X $15.50/hr for 17 hrs.) REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Council approval as submitted.
