Teresa Bender
From:
Lonni Olson <lolsondesigns@gmail.com>
Sent:
Friday, September 9, 2022 12:33 PM
To:
Teresa Bender
Subject:
Note for P&R - MITP Food Vendors
Caution: This email originated outside our organization; please use caution.
Teresa, please find a notice to the P&R members below:
Dear Parks & Recreation Committee:
I wanted to take a minute to do a brief write-up and open the discussion about the Music in the Park food
vendors this past summer. As you may know, this year the vendors were not as remotely consistent as
they were in 2021. There were a number of variables causing this. Our dessert vendor, while she insisted
she was going to be able to make it, was facing health issues and surgery while her staff was busy
opening up a new bakery. I was able to find a replacement for the week of Fete des Lacs, but she was
unavailable to take the remaining dates. The food trucks that cancelled did so due to heat (safety of
employees in the truck), last minute family -related issues, and some just simply did not show up (and
offered no reasoning or explanation when asked).
Looking to next year, the committee should discuss whether or not they would like food trucks again. Do
we have the attendance to make it worthwhile for the vendors?
If we decide to have them return, perhaps the Committee should consider some sort of written policy
about "no-shows" and cancellations and how it may affect future opportunities in our Community. The
Committee can also opt to have just one or two vendors who have proven to be reliable to attend all
season. While this does not offer the variety of foods that multiple trucks would, it allows us some
confidence that we will have food available. Another alternative suggestion, if the Committee chooses,
would be to allow local groups such as Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and others to sell pre -packaged foods at
Music in the Park. This could be every week or on weeks when no vendors are available.
I welcome your ideas, thoughts, and suggestions for the 2023 Music in the Park season.
Thank you,
Lonni Olson
