The
commission discussed how to balance public safety and nuisances with property owner rights. Formal
code changes will be brought forward at an upcoming meeting for further consideration.
Development
Amazon — Request for Changes to Fencing Plan
Representatives from Amazon's project management team presented a request to add barbed wire to
fencing around its truck dock area on the site currently under construction. The commission expressed a
mixture of opinion on the issue. City Code prohibits the use of barbed wire, except in agricultural areas,
but the development was approved under a Planned Unit Development (PUD), which allows for
flexibility.
Amazon's representatives will decide whether or not to pursue a formal request to amend the PUD.
The Commission may also explore changes to city code to allow barbed wire in certain industrial areas.
