CITY OF CENTERVILLE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: October 26, 2022 Planning & Zoning / Public Safety IX.1 TITLE OF ISSUE: Interim Ordinance - Temporary Prohibition re: Medical Facilities BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: This ordinance is a 1 year prohibition against new medical facilities or expansion of existing medical facilities. When medical facilities use public safety resources as part of their business operations, they unfairly burden the taxpayers. (i.e. Understaffed facilities calling 911 to assist staff with patients.) The City's present zoning allows medical facilities to operate without any conditions. Staff recommends the Planning & Zoning Commission study whether the City should impose conditions on medical facilities before they can operate in the City. The propose Ordinance affords the Commission a opportunity to study this issue before any new or expanded medical facilities can operate in the City.
