CITY OF CENTERVILLEREQUEST <br />FOR ACTION <br />Agenda Item # Department: RequestedMeetingDate: <br />December 6, 2022 <br />Legal <br />VI.1 <br />TITLE OF ISSUE: <br />Ordinance Review - Ord. #130 Section 130.03 Discharge of Firearms <br />BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: <br />For a number of months, the Planning and Zoning Commission has been discussing potential changes to city <br />code surrounding the use of firearms. The initial intent was to simplify the code to make it easier for police <br />officers to communicate with the public on what is allowed and what is not. The current code allows the <br />discharge of firearms, with several notable restrictions. This web of restrictions can be complicated and up to <br />interpretation. In October, our City Attorney attended a meeting and discussed issues with outright bans on the <br />discharge of firearms. Now, a recent ruling by the US Supreme Court may make restricting gun use more <br />difficult.
