CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: <br />December 14, 2022 <br />Administration <br />WS II.3 <br />TITLE OF ISSUE: <br />Garbage and Recycling RFP or Contract Extension <br />BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: <br />Staff has received a preliminary proposal from Republic Services for a 3-year extension to their current <br />contract. In summary, the contract would include a 15% or more increase in the garbage rate and a 33% <br />increase in recycling for the first year, with more modest increases in years 2 and 3 of the extension. Staff has <br />again attached information from last month's work session for context. <br />While these increases may very well be what the market is demanding, staff is still recommending that an RFP <br />be issued to ensure all options are being considered. <br />COST AND SOURCE(S) OF FUNDING: <br />TBD. Estimate cost of RFP $3k - $5k in attorney fees vs. $1k for extension. Staff time for RFP 40 hours. <br />REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: <br />No formal action required.
