CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: <br />March 22, 2023 <br />Administration <br />_WS 1 <br />TITLE OF ISSUE: <br />4-Year Mayoral Term <br />BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: <br />At various points in the city's history the issue of what the appropriate term length for the position of Mayor <br />might be has been raised. It seems that now may be a good time to revisit this topic. The city has a choice <br />between a 2 and 4-year term for the position. If the Council chose to move to a 4-year term, the existing <br />mayor's term would NOT be extended, but the next election would be for a 4-year Mayoral term. The reasons <br />for doing this is to allow a Mayor more time to be in office before having to campaign again, freeing up their <br />time to better govern.
