CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: <br />April 12, 2023 <br />Assessor <br />V.1 <br />TITLE OF ISSUE: <br />2023 Local Board of Appeal and Equalization <br />BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: <br />Annually, the City must hold a public hearing on the city assessor's classification and valuation for each <br />property within our jurisdiction, called the Local Board of Appeal & Equalization (LBAE). The City's <br />Assessor, Mary Wells, will present her report. Property owners received mailed notice of their proposed <br />valuation and the date of this hearing. Unfortunately, proper notice was not published in the city's paper, <br />therefore, we will need to hold the hearing open or "recess" to a future date, before taking any action. To meet <br />the 20-day deadline between opening the hearing and closing it, staff has set the date of the second hearing for <br />April 26, 2023 (the next regular CC meeting) and published notice in the paper as such. With the hearing open, <br />land owners will have an opportunity to resolve any disputes with our assessor between now and then. At the <br />4/26/23 meeting, the board would reconvene, vote on any changes and adjourn the LBAE. <br />COST AND SOURCE(S) OF FUNDING: <br />This board establishes the overall taxable value for the city. <br />REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: <br />Call the meeting of the Local Board of Appeal & Equalization to order. Hear the presentation of the city's <br />Assessor.
