CITY OF CENTERVILLE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: August 9, 2023 Public Works/Engineering VII.4 TITLE OF ISSUE: Water Tower Coating Inspection Contract BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: In 2019, the City contracted with KLM Engineering to have the city's water tower inspected. Specifically, the KLM inspection and report focused on the tower's coating system (it's paint job). The report generally found the tower's coatings to be in good condition and recommended a 5-year re-inspection. Given that we recently found some issues with our coating system which required repair, we felt moving the re-inspection up a year was prudent. The inspection will examine the strength of the coating system and its viability for an overcoating project as opposed to a complete reconditioning (strip off the old paint, and re-prime/re-paint). Another goal of the report will be to estimate the cost and timing of the recommended recoat. This will help us budget for the project and make decisions surrounding changes to the city's logo.
