ICI <br />COUNTY OF ANOKA <br />CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />Res. #23-0,4L_ <br />A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AUGUST 20, 2023 AS STEVEN DOUGLAS KING DAY <br />WHEREAS, on August 20, 2023, Steven Douglas King, a sitting City Council Member of the City <br />of Centerville, Minnesota, passed away at his home in downtown Centerville, with his wife by his <br />side and just across the street from the spot they first met; and <br />WHEREAS, Steve submitted Affidavits of Candidacy and was elected to the City Council by the <br />voters of Centerville three times in the past 12 years; and <br />WHEREAS, through his tenure, Steve served as a Liaison to the Parks & Recreation Committee, <br />represented the Centerville City Council on the Centennial Fire District Steering Committee, North <br />Metro Telecommunications Commission, Anoka County Fire Protection Council, Economic <br />Development Committee (EDC), Economic Development Authority (EDA) and in the capacity of <br />Deputy Mayor; and <br />WHEREAS, Steve provided leadership and respected his fellow Council Members, City staff and <br />all representatives of regional, State and Federal entities through his interactions, even if there was <br />disagreement in belief or substance; and <br />WHEREAS, Steve was a man of simple means, who represented the constituents of Centerville <br />with small-town values and fiduciary responsibility while striving to maintain independence from <br />overregulation by regional, State and Federal governments, through his in-depth research of <br />governmental procedures and programming; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Centerville Council, its Staff, boards and commissions and his constituents <br />are greatly saddened by his passing; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Centerville recognizes that Steve's service to his community, including his <br />service to our country in the United States Air Force from 1975-1979; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Centerville also appreciates Steve's family's for the sacrifices that they <br />have made, allowing him to dedicate his time serving the community. <br />
