CITY OF CENTERVILLE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: March 27, 2024 Administration IX.1 TITLE OF ISSUE: Met Council Water Efficiency Grant Application BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: The city would like to start a rebate program to reduce water use. The implementation will start with smart irrigation controllers with the goal to reduce annual water usage by 15,000 gallons per participant. The Met Council will cover 80% of the grant, and Centerville will cover 20%. Staff proposed to apply for a $5,000 grant which would cover 75% of the cost for a replacement smart irrigation controller. The homeowner would cover anything more than $150.00. The grant is only for replacement, not new installation. The application deadline is March 29th, with an implementation date of early July 2024. Requested match funding for this program is $1,000.00 for a total rebate for available funding of $6,000.00 to cover 50 smart irrigation controller upgrades with an anticipated water savings of 750,000 gallons annually. COST AND SOURCE(S) OF FUNDING: Water Fund REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Motion for City Council to approve implementation of smart irrigation controller rebate program, apply for grant funding, and execute this program starting in July if funding is granted by Met Council.
