CITY OF CENTERVILLE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: March 27, 2024 Administration _WS 2 TITLE OF ISSUE: Fete des Lacs BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Over the last 30 years or so, the city's annual festival has taken many twists and turns in terms of its organizational structure. In the early years, the local bars were front and center in putting the events together. Then, the Lions Club and City each found a role to play, along the way. For the past 5 to 7 years or so, the Lions Club and City have jointly run the festival. While the festival has grown and both the Lions and City have valued this partnership, there are a number of reasons that it may be time to let this progression continue, building on what we have established; a stable and successful festival. To that end, staff has been working with the Lions Club to thoughtfully shift responsibilities to the Lions. City festivals are not usually run by city governments, and most cities find it best if a community based organization can take them over. Staff will facilitate a discuss with the Council on the logistics of this shift in responsibilities and seek input on it.
