9.8 Service as Election Judge <br />General: Under Minnesota Statutes §20413.195, an individual who is selected to serve as <br />an election judge pursuant to §20413.21, subdivision 2 may, after giving the Employer at <br />least 20 days' written notice, be absent from work for the purpose of serving as an <br />election judge without penalty. The Employer may restrict the number of Employees <br />serving as election judges to twenty (20) per cent of the workforce at a single worksite. <br />Wages: The salary or wages of the Employee serving as an election judge shall be <br />reduced by the amount paid to the election judge by the appointing authority during the <br />time the Employee was absent from employment. The Employee also has the option to <br />use personal leave for the absence. <br />Request: The written request to be absent from work must be accompanied by a <br />certification from the appointing authority stating the hourly compensation to be paid to <br />the Employee for service as an election judge and the hours during which the Employee <br />will serve. <br />9.9 Leave for Bone Marrow Donation <br />General: Under Minnesota Statute § 181.945, an Employee who works an average of at <br />least 20 hours per week is entitled to a paid leave of absence to undergo a medical <br />procedure to donate bone marrow. The combined length of the leave may not exceed <br />forty (40) hours, unless agreed to by the Employer. The Employer may require <br />verification by a physician of the purpose and length of each leave requested by the <br />Employee to donate bone marrow. If there is a medical determination that the Employee <br />does not qualify as a bone marrow donor, the paid leave of absence granted to the <br />Employee prior to that medical determination is not forfeited. <br />9.10 Civil Air Patrol Leave <br />General: Under Minnesota Statute § 181.946, an Employee who works an average of at <br />least 20 hours per week and is a member of the civil air patrol is entitled to leave of <br />absence without pay for time spent rendering service as a member of the civil air patrol <br />on the request and under the authority of the State or any of its political subdivisions. The <br />leave shall be granted unless the leave would unduly disrupt the operations of the <br />Employer. <br />9.11 Time Off to Vote <br />General: Under Minnesota Statute 204C.04, every Employee who is eligible to vote in an <br />election has the right to be absent from work for the purpose of voting during the morning <br />of the day of that election, without penalty or deduction from salary or wages because of <br />the absence. <br />Elections Covered: For purposes of this section, "election" means a regularly scheduled <br />Presidential primary, State primary or general election, an election to fill a vacancy in the <br />office of United States Senator or United States Representative, or an election to fill a <br />vacancy in the office of State Senator or State Representative. <br />Page 25 of 60 <br />
