City of Centerville <br />City Council Meeting Minutes <br />May 8, 2024 <br />stated that Amazon is fully on and roughly one million dollars will be on the tax roll. He discussed <br />Homestead Exclusion and stated that it was changed and increased by 20% and what it will do is anyone <br />who is homesteading their homes will receive a break in 2025 and could be substantial for some. <br /> <br />Council Member Koski stated that he was impressed how shifting the tax burden off of residential <br />properties to others and it says a large amount about staff and council’s hard work. He stated that he <br />was surprised to see apartments decreased with the shortage of housing. Mr. Skogquist stated interest <br />rates, rent increases last year went up rapidly and that it is leveling out and sales were followed. Council <br />Member Koski asked about storage units and whether sales of those were Centerville or County wide. <br />Mr. Skogquist stated that primarily County wide. He commented on the tax capacity and nice to see that <br />it increased. Council Member Mosher asked about the commercial sales and which ones were <br />considered unqualified. Mr. Skogquist stated that a parcel on Fairview Street, south of Amazon, and the <br />Minnoco were unqualified. <br /> <br />Mayor opened the Board of Appeal and Equalization at 7:45 p.m. He stated that no citizens/members of <br />the public were present. <br /> <br />VI. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES <br /> <br />1. April 24, 2024, City Council Work Session & Meeting Minutes <br /> <br />Mayor Love provided an opportunity for Council to make modifications if needed. <br /> <br />Council Member Koski was absent and present at the same time. Mayor Love stated that he made a <br />motion and it noted that he was a Council Member in lieu of the Mayor. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Koski seconded by Council Member Mosher to Approve the April 24, <br />2024, City Council Work Session & Meeting Minutes with the Above Stated Modification. <br />Council Member Sweeney abstained. Motion carried. <br /> <br />VII. CONSENT AGENDA <br /> <br />1. City of Centerville Claims through May 8, 2024 (Checks #36691-36715 & E2231-E2236) <br />2. Centennial Lake Police Department Claims - None <br />3. Centennial Fire District Claims - None <br />4. Parks & Recreation Committee Recommendation to Approve the Park Facility Permit <br />Application Submitted on Behalf of the Centerville Elementary School for Use of Laurie <br />LaMotte Park <br /> <br />Mayor Love provided an opportunity for members to pull items for additional discussion. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Sweeney, seconded by Council Member Koski Approve the Consent <br />Agenda as presented. All in favor. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Mayor Love closed the Board of Appeal and Equalization at 7:47 p.m. as no members of the public were <br />present. <br /> <br />VIII.
