CITY OF CENTERVILLE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: July 24, 2024 Administration WS 2.1.d TITLE OF ISSUE: City Bus Tour - Well #1 (McBride Park) Re-investment Discussion BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Water seems to be a hot topic these days, especially when it comes to clean drinking water and especially in the northeast metro. Issues such as PFAS (forever chemicals), the White Bear Lake lawsuit, Manganese (a primary reason Lino Lakes is building a treatment plant) and many others make protecting our water supply as critical as ever. Our city relies on two water supply wells to give us our drinking water. Most of what you use on a day to day basis comes from Well #2 (near city hall). However, the city also has a back-up well; Well #1, near the site of the old water tower. It has been many years since any major investment has been made in this well, mostly because it's only used on rare occasions. Given all of the pressures surrounding us, it is prudent to continue to reinvest in the infrastructure we have. In this case, ensuring Centerville has a reliable and sustainable water supply of its own. Staff will give a short tour of the Well #1 facility and discuss potential improvements.
