Teresa Bender
From: Matt Frevel <frevelmatt@yahoo.com>
Sent: Wednesday, M:rr2022
ch 9, 4:06 PM D
To: Teresa Bender 04/
Subject: Re: Emerald As ,/ )
v /j\
Caution: This email originated outside our organization; please use caution. wnn D
0),
Good afternoon Teresa, )
I will try and make it to the next Parks & Recreation meeting, but my concerns are more geare4 U
towards Centerville as a whole.
I am asking the committee/council to reassess the impact EAB will have on the city and what current
treatment options are available. I would also like to emphasize that this year is most likely the last year
to take action. If you look around neighboring cities (Lino Lakes, Hugo, White Bear Lake), the Ash trees
are in a more advanced state of disease. Many other cities have made agreements with tree services to
provide residents discounts on treatment. If the council choses not to treat any trees, then I would like to
know their plan for addressing removal and disposal of the thousands of dead/dying trees in Centerville?
In what form and when was information provided to residents on EAB? I'm not questioning, or
doubting that information was provided, but I don't ever recall seeing anything.
I think the information you got from that arborist is a little outdated. Their have been advancements
made with treatments over the past 5-10 years. I have spoken with an expert from the U of M extension
and was told that $7/inch was the average cost for a 2-3 year long treatment. I did a quick search and
have found a range from $5-15/inch for 2 year long treatment. Studies have shown that treatment is
99% affective at preventing/mitigating infestation. I have also been told that grants are available to
communities that are looking for assistance with EAB control.
I will attend the council meeting tonight and raise my concerns if given the opportunity.
Thank you, Matt Frevel
On Wednesday, March 9, 2022, 01:27:08 PM CST, Teresa Bender<tbender@centervillemn.com>wrote:
Dear Mr. Frevel:
Thank you for the discussions and the information that you shared.
I would suggest that a better place to start with you conversation would be at the City's Parks & Recreation
Committee. They meet the first Wednesday of every month here at City Hall at 6:30 p.m.
I.
