Memorandum

Date: January 17, 2025

To: Honorable Mayor and City Council

From: Mark Statz, PE – City Administrator/Engineer

rd
Subject: Traffic Control at the Intersection of 73 Street and Brian Drive

Background
rd
For many years, the intersection at Brian Drive and 73 Street has been controlled as a 2-
rd
way stop in the east-west direction (on 73), but uncontrolled in the north-south
rd
direction. In the city’s comprehensive Plan, 73 Street is listed as a “Minor Collector”
on the Functional Classification map (Figure 6-1).On that same map, Brian Drive is also
rd
listed as a Minor Collector, south of 73 Street, but not to the north, where it dead ends.
rd
Brian Drive, north of 73 Street would be classified as a “Local Road”. Typically,
collector roads are given precedence over intersecting local roads when it comes to traffic
control. In other words, collector roads, don’t normally stop, for local roads; it’s the
rd
other way around. As is the case, a bit west of this location, at 73 Street and Quebec
Street, both the collector road and local roads stop.

Existing Conditions

208
