An aerial view of the facility and the nearest residences are shown below. The nearest
homes are around 800 feet from the loading dock. Trees planted along the west side of
the loading area are circled in red.
City staff has spoken with Amazon’s consulting engineers who expressed a willingness to
work with the city on exploring some mitigation strategies. Tentatively, we have asked
them to prepare some ideas for discussion at a work session on February 12, 2025. Some
of those ideas could include: additional, or larger, more mature coniferous trees along the
west edge of the loading dock area or cladding the exterior walls near the loading dock
with noise muffling materials. Building some type of sound wall between the loading
dock and the residential areas may block back-up alarms but may also amplify the
th
highway noise along County Road 54 (20 Ave.).
Conclusions and Recommendations
If the Council wishes to pursue the addition of noise mitigation measures, staff should be
directed to engage in discussions with Amazon and their partners to explore options.
90
