The ÑDowntownÒ area of Centerville does not need to have this character, but
if the City wants it, then there are a few key elements that must be present for it to emerge. Many
of those elements are described and prescribed in the DMP.
Buildings Close to the Street/Parking to the Side or Rear
The images belowshow a typical suburban shopping center(top) and a typical small town
downtown shopping experience (bottom). The first has long, low one-story buildings and a large
expanse of parking; the second has two- and three-story buildings close to the street, parking on
the street, and sidewalks.
Suburban Shopping (Vadnais Heights)
Small Town Shopping (Owatonna)
