Recycle batteries responsibly. DonÓt throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins <br />because they could start a fire. Recycle your device or battery at a safe battery recycling location. <br />Visit call2recycle.org to find a recycling spot near you. <br /> <br />While Fire Prevention Week happens once a year, fire prevention is everyoneÓs responsibility year-round. <br />Lithium-ion batteries are powerful, and care must be taken when using them. Buying safe products, charging <br />devices properly, and recycling batteries responsibly can help keep ourselves and homes safe from lithium- <br />ion battery fires. <br /> <br />But battery safety is only one aspect of fire safety. Make sure you are doing your part by creating and <br />practicing a home fire escape plan. Be on the lookout for and correct some common fire hazards, such as <br />unattended cooking, smoking indoors, disabled smoke alarms, and electrical issues. <br /> <br />Common household items powered by lithium batteries: Mobile phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches, <br />headphones, cordless vacuum cleaners, toys, remote-controlled cars, power tools, e-cigarettes/vapes, e-bikes, <br />e-scooters, e-vehicles, golf carts, hoverboards and drones to name a few. <br /> <br />The National Fire Protection Association (nfpa.org) is a source of information.
