<br />City of Centerville <br />Park & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes <br />May 7, 2025 <br />The cost for the Fiore Tree will be $48,190.00 (7 pots), $46,290.00 (5 pots). There are options for <br />lighting, bark cutout, different types of lights, and electricity added to the location of the tree. <br />$19,005 for the 7 pots and $17,005 for the 5 pots. Lighting would be $16,000. A donation was <br />made by the Lions Club. A grant request is submitted (up to $50,000). An option would be <br />$27,775.00 for just the tree, with no lighting or water. There were donations of $1,000 and $2,000. <br />This would bring the cost down to $25,775.00. Public Works would handle the watering along <br />with the other flowers in the area. The bark cutout can be done without lighting. The tree could <br />be decorated with lights after the fact. Solar lighting was suggested. The cost of solar lighting will <br />be researched. The solar lighting could change seasonally. Garten’s will fill the flowerpots for <br />$150/ea. The suggestion of doing perennial planting in the pots down the road. There may be price <br />changes due to tariffs. The question of warranty of the lights, repair for burned-out lights, and <br />adding LED lights after the tree is installed. The question of solar lights will also be asked. A basic <br />tree is within budget currently. The previous motion was not to exceed $25,000, and it was <br />approved by the City Council. The new Council had questions, and it was brought back to the <br />Committee, and the suggestion was to contact the EDA about funding. This will not be sent back <br />to the City Council until information is received on the grant, lighting, warranty, and repair costs. <br />The grant will not be announced until August. <br /> <br />4. Tree Plan <br /> <br />Committee Member Fuchs provided an update on the Tree Plan. She contacted the Interim Public <br />Works Director who had input on the plan as far as appropriate locations for the trees. There was <br />an email request to do some planting along the edge of Acorn Creek Park. Some Shrubbery would <br />be planted along the property line in Royal Meadows. Local nurseries have been contacted about <br />species availability. The plan would be to plant a couple of trees in each park every year (10-20 <br />per year). Pricing information has not been received. It was suggested that residents be able to <br />order trees to obtain a bulk discount. The tree watering bags would be used. Lilac trees were <br />suggested. <br /> <br />5. Fete des Lacs Logo Contest <br /> <br />All artwork has been received, and the sub-committee will make a recommendation for winners. <br />Middle school and elementary school students submitted artwork was reviewed by the Committee. <br />The contest theme is “America the Beautiful”. <br /> <br />The Committee reviewed the 19 entries submitted by the elementary students. The consensus of <br />stnd <br />the Committee was to revote for #13, #16, and #1. 1 Place goes to #13. 2 Place goes to #16. <br />stnd <br />Honorable Mention goes to #1. Prize money is $100 (1), $50 (2) and $25 (Honorable Mention) <br />along with a t-shirt. <br /> <br />For the middle school entries, there were 21 entries reviewed by the Committee. The consensus of <br />stnd <br />the Committee was to revote for #3, #9, and #11. 1 Place goes to #9. 2 Place goes to #3. <br />stnd <br />Honorable Mention goes to #11.
