CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: <br />March 12, 2026 <br />Public Works <br />VIII.2 <br />TITLE OF ISSUE: <br />Equipment for Implementation of Tree Planting Plan <br />BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: <br />Atthe September 24, 2025, City Council meeting, $15,000 was approved for the purchase of trees and labor to complete <br />the first year of parks tree planting plan. The Public Works staff have removed the trees that were scheduled to be <br />removed, and is coordinating the planting of new trees this spring. Staff is requesting that Council approve $4,926 for an <br />auger and mount, and $1,127 for a 24" auger bit that will fit our current skidster, equipment needed for the plantings. <br />These costs would be included in a not-to-exceed, first year cost of $15,000. Staff is also proposing to purchase bareroot <br />species trees that follow the tree planting plan, instead of ball and burlap trees. More trees are able to beacquired and <br />planted with the Public Works staff labor being used, and a reduction in tree costs will be realized. The trees will be <br />mulched, provided a watering bag for three years, and fertilized twice a season. The equipment will be used for the four <br />years and beyond.
