Nearly half of all battered women report some type of injury as a result of
their victimization. Three out often women murdered in the U.S. are the
victims of an intimate partner.

A domestic violence situation is one of the most dangerous caUs
responded to by law enforcement. It is critical that law enforcement
professionals develop and implement programs, policies and practices
that are both safe and effective in meeting the serious and unique
challenges of domestic violence cases. Research shows a
well. coordinated and multidisciplinary approach is one of the more
effective means of reducing domestic violence. Strategies that emphasize
victim safety, while holding offenders accountable, have proven to be one
of the most successful means of intervention.

Alexandra House partners with the majority oflaw enforcement agencies
in the county including the Centennial Lakes Police Department and city
prosecutors to create this kind of response to domestic violence in order
to reduce the incidence of domestic violence in Anoka County while
ensuring the safety of victims and holding offenders accountable.

Your financial support in 2006 was greatly appreciated and along with
support from Anoka County and other cities and Alexandra House's
limited cash reserves we were able to continue providing the same level
of service to victims of domestic violence in Centerville. This year we
will not have cash reserves to fill our funding gap making it even more
important that we secure adequate funding from our community. As a
community partner, I hope that the City of Centerville will again find
merit in our request for funding to help ensure we are able to continue
providing the critical services that will improve the public health and
safety of Anoka County residents.

Thank you for your consideration. I would be happy to answer any
questions you may have and look forward to meeting with you in person
to .further discuss this funding request.

Sincerely,

Connie Moore
Executive Director

Cc: Mary Capra, Mayor

:<3
