MEMO

TO: Parks & Recreation Committee

FROM: Kim Stephan

SUBJECT: Updates

DATE: December 30, 2006

Chane:e in Procedure for Appointment to Committee

Mr. Dallas Larson, City Administrator, will update the committee on this procedural change.

Comprehensive Plan Review

Included in your packet are pages of the Comprehensive Plan that apply to Parks & Recreation. The
Comprehensive Plan is updated every 10 years, with the last update being done in 1997. The Planning
& Zoning Commission has asked the Parks & Recreation Committee to review the plan and provide
input for the 2007 update. The City Administrator, Mr. Larson, has asked you consider any and all
ideas you would like included in the 'master plan' for parks and trails within Centerville. Some of the
projects may not happen right away or may not happen for 10 years or we may not have funding for
these projects at this time, but don't let that be prohibitive. Please think of all the trails/sidewalks and
parks in Centerville, how they are connected (or not connected) and what you would eventually like to
see happen. I am also including in your packet the grant application submitted in February of 2005 by
the Parks & Recreation Committee for The Clearwater Trail for your review as there is useful trail
information provided by SRF Consulting. Also included is a Project Map for the trail connections Mr.
Meyer, Finance Director, had applied for with the Transportation Enhancement Grant. This grant was
not approved in 2006, but will be reapplied for in 2007.

Review of Hanzal Plat

Included in your packet is a copy of a preliminary plat for the Hanzal Addition which is going to
Planning & Zoning on December 5, 2006. Also included is an aerial of the area. The City will receive
Park Dedication Fees for this addition at $3,000 per lot and will be able to include a trail or a sidewalk
through this property. While looking at trail possibilities, consider a connection to the Peltier Preserve
property.

Available Peltier Preserve Property & the Park at the End of Peltier Lake Drive

At the last Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting the committee requested more information on the
available property in Peltier Preserve. Vice-Chairperson Seeley supplied pictures of the property via
email which are printed and included in your packet. Mr. Dallas Larson, City Administrator, and I

lof5
