MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
Division of Environmental Health
REPORT ON PLANS

Plans and specifications on watermain: Pheasant Marsh Utility & Street Improvements Phase 1, Centerville,
Anoka County, Minnesota, Plan No. 020778

OWNERSHIP:

City of Centerville, c/o Mr. Jim March, City Administrator, Centerville City Hall, 1880 Main
Street, Centerville, Minnesota 55038

SUBMITTER(S): Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik & Associates, 2335 West Highway 36, St. Paul, Minnesota
55113

Plans Dated:

Date Received: September 6, 2001

Date Reviewed: September 7, 2001

SCOPE: This report covers the design of this project insofar as the safety and sanitary quality of the water for
public consumption may be affected, and applies to this project only and not to the entire system or any other part
thereof. The examination of plans is based upon the supposition that the data on which the design is based are
correct, and that necessary legal authority has been obtained to construct the project. The responsibility for the
design of structural features and the efficiency of equipment must be taken by the project designer. Approval is
contingent upon satisfactory disposition of any requirements included with this report.

Water supply plans are examined with regard to the location, construction and operational features of the design
and maintenance of all parts of the system which may affect the safety and sanitary quality of the water.
Examination is based on the standards of this department.

This project consists of the installation of the following watermains:

1. 3,220 lineal feet of 12-inch PYC watermain.

2. 160 lineal feet of 8-inch PYC waterrnain.

3. 600 lineal feet of 6-inch PYC waterrnain.

REQUIREMENT(S):

1. A minimum vertical separation of 18 inches is required at all waterrnain and sewer main (house, storm,
sanitary and force main) crossings. This refers to the waterrnain that crosses the two forcemains at 6+25 on
Sheet No. C4.01.

2. The disinfection of the watermain shall be performed according to AWWA C651. If the tablet or
continuous feed methods are used, the completed watermain shall be disinfected for 24 hours with at least
50 ppm available chlorine, with a residual of at least 10 ppm throughout the length of the main at the end of
the 24 hour period.

3. It is recommended that a hydraulic analysis be conducted to assure that a minimum 20 psi is obtained at the
fire hydrant on the 6-inch dead end during fire flow conditions. If the 20 psi is not obtained, the fire hydrant
should be eliminated or replaced with a flushing hydrant. This refers to the hydrant located at the east end
of Grouse Hollow.
