~

Metropolitan Council
Improve regional competitiveness in a global economy

Environmental Services

SfP

6 2D01

September 4, 200 I

Dear Potential Grant Applicant:

The Metropolitan Council is pleased to announce a targeted grant program to fund alternative
stann water conveyance systems, i.e. "Rain Gardens". The Council has set aside $230,000 to
fund this initiative from the MetroEnvironment Partnership (MEP) grant program. Four grants of
$50,000 each will be awarded. The additional $30,000 will be used to monitor one of the sites for
effectiveness. It is anticipated that these alternative conveyance systems will generate less storm
water volume and improve the water quality of the runoff over conventional curb and gutter
systems.

The MEP grant program is open to both public and non-profit organizations. Developers need to
work with a local government, if they are interested in installing this type of project. Grant
application forms are available from the Council's Data Center (6511602-1140fITY 291-0904).
Applications and grant selection criteria are also available on the Council's web site at
www.metrocouncil.org/cnvironment. The deadline for submitting applications is 4:00 p.m. on
Friday, October 26, 200 I.

Applicants are encouraged to contact me at 651-602-1078 or e-mail me at
iack.frost@metc.state.mn.us to discuss the proposed project before submitting a proposal. If you are
aware of anyone else that may be interested in submitting a grant proposal, I encourage you to let
him or her know about this program.

Sincerely,

~l~~..

\_J Jack Frost PE
Project Manager

www.metrocouncil.org

Metro Info Line 602-1888

230 East Fifth Street .
