My reasons are as follows:

-Pay phones located at or in public areas that are not occupied around the clock tend to be
rendered inoperable by vandals. (In most cases the phone is ripped out.)
-A majority of the general public now carries a portable cell phone with them at all times,
and/or has access to a cell phone, i.e. phone is left in car or nearby.
-Several homes border the park allowing for notification/witness of an event needing
police/fire attention.

Ideally a pay phone with capabilities of accepting free 911 calls should be mandated at
every public park. Reality shows that when a pay phone is present it is usually out of
service. A member of the public needing a phone in an emergency wastes precious time
running to a phone only to find it inoperable. Unless a vandal proof phone is available, I
believe the public would be best served by not having a pay phone installed.

~
