This Spring was extremely
bad. So had that our basement flooded. We tafked with our neighbors
(7833 Center Street & 1825 Cenrer Street) and they too had extreme water
problems this Spring.

So my wife and I set out In early April to see if there was something
that could be clone to alleYiate this problem. We read books, contacte.d
the Citv of Centervll/e (Paul ?, the city planner) and had numerous
landscape desIgners give us their thoughts and quotes.

The City of Cem:ervllle told us to fill in our baCkyard and use drainage.
tile to move the water to the back of our yard. From there the water
would drain across our neighbors backyard and into a marshy area.

We took rhis plan and presented it to 5 different landscape designers.
All 5 said this plan of acUon woulcl not work. In fact all 5 said this
would only cause more problems for us and our neighhors. This option
would kill most of the trees On the western edge of our yard, but most
imporrantly, if we build up our backyard there is a strong possibility
that instead of channeling the water away from our hOlJse WE! will be
sendIng ;r directly towards our house. The engineers with the City of
Centerville failed to notice that the area they want us to channel the
water to has a higher elevation than our yard. Another issue with this
option pertains to 1825 Ce.nter Street, The water draining from the
surrounding homes evemua"y ends up in a marshy area adjacent to 1825
Center Street. As water fills this marshy area it floods into our
neighbors baCkyard.

The predominant solution offered by these landscapers was to have a ditch
run across our backyards and into a sedime.nt pond. We would then use
drainage tile to channel the water from our yards into that ditch, The
City of Ce.ntel"ville owns wooded property that runs the extent of our
hackyards. Therefore we are asking the City of Centerville to fund part
of this project. Mainly the ditch running the length of our yants ancl
also somewhere for the overflow to go hesldes into the backyard of 1825
Center Street.

There is a drainage ditch that runs from Centerville Road to
approximately half way up the northe.rn portion of Center Street then

1
