Goal 2 Parks and Recreation

Item 2. Pedestrian and Bicycle Trail Access Plan, Construction and Maintenance
It is important that citizens have access to businesses, schools, parks, and public
buildings by walking and bicycling. Council will update the Comprehensive Plan in May
2001 as recommended by the City Administrator. Park and Recreation Committee
plans such as the trail plan should be included in the revised document. Council will
hold a public hearing on the trail plan at the April 11 Council Meeting. Based on the
input of citizens and the committee, a final plan will be included in the updated
Comprehensive Plan. The plan should include not only trail locations, guidelines or
standards for construction, and priorities for construction.

Council has already allocated $10,000 from the General Fund for item 46000 Trailways
construction and maintenance. Trail construction is an ideal opportunity for citizen
participation and volunteer help.
Responsible Leaders: Park and Recreation Committee and Council
Product: Trail Plan for pedestrian and bicycle access
Plan to be Approved: April 11 , 2001 Council Meeting - Public Hearing
April 25, 2001 Council Meeting - Plan Approval
Plan to Implemented: As development occurs and per recommendations
Of Park and Recreation Committee and possible
Street Scaping Plans
Plan Evaluation: Yearly Review by Council with Committee
