<br />Chair De Vine requested comment on the submitted duties and responsibilities Committee <br />Members volunteered for. Discussion ensued in regards to contacting several fireworks <br />display firms and the need for relocating same due to the Hunter's Crossing <br />Development. Several suggestions were made for alternative sites for setting off the <br />fireworks, such as The Anoka County Rice Creek Regional Park or over Centerville <br />Lake. The space needed and weather conditions will determine the location, however, <br />keeping it close to Laurie LaMotte Park for convenience and keeping the events together <br />was suggested. <br /> <br />Committee Member Sweeney questioned the procedure for obtaining volunteers last year. <br />Chair De Vine felt that word of mouth was probably the best avenue, however, <br />advertisements for volunteers were placed on the cable channel, newsletters, and <br />newspapers. Chair DeVine strongly advised against same. Committee Member Sweeney <br />questioned the date of the festival. Chair De Vine stated that the date had been <br />determined for the first weekend in August. Chair De Vine suggested sending volunteers <br />a reminder postcard prior to the event. Chair DeVine stated his willingness to assist in <br />obtaining volunteers. <br /> <br />The item of Main Stage Events was brought up. Discussion ensued regarding the Awards <br />Ceremony for the parade and a 1:00 p.m. time slot. Committee Member Sweeney <br />suggested an announcement be made in regards to the winners of parade awards <br />immediately prior to the dance. Chair De Vine stated that he had suggestions for <br />activities to take place on Thursday and Sunday and felt that these arrangements could be <br />made nearer to the event. Chair De Vine felt that additional advertisement and a larger <br />event list would draw a larger crowd than last year. Committee Member Thill suggested <br />that speakers be installed throughout the park. Committee Member Sweeney stated that <br />if a concession stand were constructed prior to the event, the concession stand should <br />have the capability to provide same. <br /> <br />Committee Member Peil questioned the recipients of last years donation letters. Chair <br />DeVine suggested that Committee Member Peil contact Mr. March in regards to this <br />letter. Chair DeVine stated that the majority of the letters were sent to businesses. <br />Discussion ensued in regards to button prices and accountability of the buttons. Chair <br />DeVine questioned Committee Member Sweeney's willingness to participate in handling <br />rubbish removal and electricity. <br /> <br />A three (3) minute recess was taken by members. Chair DeVine reconvened the meeting. <br /> <br />Electrical Installation - Laurie LaMotte Park <br /> <br />Chair DeVine reported that this item was discussed at the previous Council Meeting and <br />Council seemed receptive to the idea and requested that City Engineer, Tom Peterson <br />review same and forward suggestions to the Parks and Recreation Committee in February <br />when Council would be in attendance. Chair De Vine encouraged Committee Members <br />attendance of the meeting. Chair DeVine stated that several individuals; including <br />himself, Paul Palzer, Tom Peterson and Jim March would be surveying the Park on <br />Thursday to ascertain electrical needs.
