.

~

MEMO

3 August 2000

To: Mayor Wilharber an City Council
From: Paul Palzer Public VI. xks Director/Building Official :;~
Re: Trucl, replacement a ,d building cleaning

++++++++++~ ~++++++++++i++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

As you rec. JII, the City agrt ,d to rotate the pickups it owns on a three/four
year cycle. TI is policy elimin: 'es repair costs because the vehicles are under
warranty and Il1aintains a flee\ that is always in good condition. I would like to
replace the 97 Ford with a 20( I model and the 93 black ranger with a 96-97
model. The cost of these trad s would be in the range of $12,000.00 to
$14,000.00. The current year; budget is $14,000.00.

The City has never adopte( a color theme for its vehicles and I would like a
consensus on the colors of th( new vehicles. I also anticipate replacing or
adding another large plow trw ~ to the fleet next year. The City has budgeted
$65,000.00 for this replaceme (over the last five years.

I have received several qur as on a 3/4 hn Ford and Chevy pickup. The
quotes from Northland Associ. as is about S '1,400.00 to $3,500.00 lower than
the two Forest lake dealer's q otes. Northl.lnd has been very good to work with
in the past and has been abou $2,000.00 Itis in price.

Before moving into the ne\l\ )ublic works }uilding I would like to have the
shop area pressured cleaned. Safety-Kleen performs this work and the last time
Mr. Hubers had this done it co; , about $3, OC 0.00.

I would like Council apprOVi! to proceed \vith replacing the two Ford trucks
with the selection of a color th( I1e and also j ne go ahead with the interior
washing of the new public wor~ ; facility wheil it becomes accessible to the City.
