<br />" <br /> <br /> <br />,.@;, <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br /> <br />FROM: Kim Stephan <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Parks & Recreation Recommendation <br /> <br />DATE: March 7, 2003 <br /> <br />At the February 5,2003 Parks & Recreation meeting the following recommendation was made: <br /> <br />Motion was made by Committee Member Peterson, seconded by Committee Member LeBlanc to <br />recommend to City Council the hiring of a Parks & Recreation Coordinator. All in Favor: <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />At the March 5, 2003 Parks & Recreation meeting the committee submitted the following description <br />for the tasks and duties of a Parks and Recreation Coordinator. This position would be a part-time, year <br />round job. The emphasis in the past has been on summer programs, but it is anticipated that activities <br />should be year round. <br /> <br />* Promote and coordinate city wide child/youth/adult programs, activities, <br />and events. <br />* Research and suggest Parks and Recreation related activities for the city. <br />Examples would be sports, educational, and entertainment. <br />* Interact with adjoining communities and organizations to coordinate and plan programs and <br />activities. <br />* Publicize city activities i.e., flyers, newspapers, and web site. <br />* Coordinate registration for the activities, as necessary and document participation for Parks and <br />Recreation planning purposes. <br />* Collect Parks and Recreation program fees, related accounting and tracking paperwork. <br />* Coordinate and document use of park resources, such as sports fields. <br />* Answer questions from the public related to Parks and Recreation activities and resources. Relay <br />suggestions to the Parks and Recreation Committee. <br /> <br />The following was taken from the 03-12-03 City Council Meeting Minutes <br /> <br />Parks & Recreation Committee Recommendations <br /> <br /> <br />Mayor Sweeney indicated that the only way the City could invest money for a Parks and Recreation <br />Coordinator, even part-time, would be to attempt to find the funds for it in next year's budget. He then <br />said he would like to look at working with Lino Lakes to utilize their Parks Department as a joint <br />powers arrangement. <br /> <br />Council Member Capra indicated she had called all of the Parks and Recreation Committee member <br />except for Ms. DeVine because she did not have the right telephone number for her to ask what t1 <br />desired.
