Storm drain stenciling is an educationc
interactive tool to engage people of all ages in watershed polll
prevention. This brings the message back to public attention \j
bright new image on the street and another opportunity fo
volunteers & media attention. The message on the street tells
NOT TO DO and WHY. Media fliers will explain what people I
DO and HOW.

Stenciling works! It raises awareness and leads to pollutio
prevention. Many people unknowingly believe storm drains co
to sewer treatment facilities and that industry is the greatest s(
of water pollution. According to EPA, over 60% of our watf
pollution comes from urban and agricultural storm water runoff
point source pollution). People are more likely to change th
behavior to prevent pollution once they understand that storm'
runoff pollutants end up in water bodies.

Volunteers will be trained and organized to stencil an educati,
message next to the storm sewers notifying the public that t
streets and waters are connected.

For further information or questions contact Dawn Dubats, F
Creek Watershed District Environmental Educator Coordinate
763-398-3070 x178 or email: ddubats@ricecreekwd.com

Click here for information from the Rice Creek Watershed District entitled 'Evel
is a Shoreline',

Click here for your Stormwater Checklist.

Click here to learn how resurrected rain barrels reduce run-off & conserve w

Work less in your yard.
