LCM.R

ANOKA CONSERVATION DISTRICT

"One of every three residents thinks that
the most attractive feature of the Twin
Cities is the parks/trails/lakes and natura!
resources."

MetCouncil Resident Survey 2003

Unlike Other Programs
. Locallylead
. Relies on partnership between the
private and public sectors
. Project based on locally shared long
term vision for the community
. Protection efforts are solely focused
on open space under immediate
threat of development
. Land protection costs off-set by den-
sity adjustment
. Protected open space can remain in
private ownership, as with home-
owners' associations
. No net loss of housing
. Increases tax base
. Uses variance from ordinances in-
stead of cash to protect open space
. Building local capacity will result in
benefits continuing to multiply over
time
. Creates an approach that can be rep-
licated throughout the state in all size
communities interested in protecting
community open space.

Contact Chris lord for More Information
16015 Central Ave. NE Suite 103
Ham Lake, MN 55304
Phone: 763-434-2030 x13
Email: chris.lord@anokaswcd.org

Project Purpose
Establish corridors for people and wildlife to:
.
