<br />LOCAL TRAIL CONNECTIONS GRANT PROGRAM <br />Information Sheet 2005 <br /> <br />Deadlines/ Applications must be received no later than February 28, 2005. Pending the availability <br />Important offunds, reimbursement grant awards will be announced no later than July 2005. <br />Dates: <br />Program The emphasis of this program is to promote access between people and desirable <br />Introduction: destinations, not to develop significant new recreation facilities. Its primary purpose is <br /> to complete trails connections between where people live (e.g. residential areas within <br /> cities, and communities) and significant public recreation facilities (e.g. parks and other <br /> trails). Priority will be given to residential connections to state and regional facilities <br /> and linking existing trail segments. <br />How It works: Provides reimbursement grants to local units of government for trail projects or serves <br /> as a partial local "match" for a TEA-21 Enhancement project. <br />Eligible Land acquisition and trail development. However, acquisition of trail right-of-way will <br />Activities: only be eligible when it is proposed in conjunction with trail development. Land <br /> purchased with this fund will require a "perpetual easement for recreational trail <br /> purposes," and trails developed with these funds will require a twenty-year maintenance <br /> commitment by the project sponsor. Projects inside state park boundaries, state trail <br /> corridors, or elements of the Metropolitan Regional Open Space System are ineligible. <br />Eligible Cities, counties and townships. <br />Applicants: <br />Local Support: LocaVarea support must be demonstrated by providing resolution, or minutes of council <br /> hearing. <br />Local Match: Fifty percent (50%) "cash match" for eligible elements of the project proposal is <br /> required. <br /> . Neither this funding source nor the cash match can be used for in-house labor <br /> services and/or to meet existing payroll (i.e., only contract services, materials <br /> and supplies are reimbursable) <br /> . Federal Recreational Trail Grant Program, Regional Trail Grant <br /> Program, Metropolitan Council Funds and other state funds are not <br /> eligible cash matches for this program. <br />Grant Project proposal maximum requests can result in no more than $100,000 of <br />Amount: reimbursement. <br />Project Period: Funded projects will need to begin promptly after an agreement has been completed <br /> between the State and the applicant. Projects must be completed prior to June 30, <br /> 2006. All components of the project must be completed by this date. This period <br /> may be extended for projects receiving TEA-21 Enhancement funding. <br />Disbursement: Grants are reimbursable.
