Part of the problem is
native plants are harder to find in retail stores.

The Rice Creek Watershed District (RCWD) is launching a new
program called "One-Stop-Shopping to Restore Your Yard &
Shore" to make it easy for residents to purchase these beneificial
plants. Residents can go to area garden retailers to learn the "how
to's" of raingardens and lakeshore restoration at the RCWD display
and then purchase the plants they need - all in one place!
Participating retailers are Landscape Alternatives in Roseville,
Lebens Floral & Old Town Market in Hugo, Linder's Garden Center
in St. Paul and Rice Creek Gardens in Blaine. The Rice
Creek Watershed District is launching a new Citizen Assisted Volunteer Inspector
Program this spring and would like your help identifying construction sites that
have sediment and erosion control problems.

The Rice Creek Watershed District encompasses a 200-square mile land area
that drains to Rice Creek and then the Mississippi River. With just one inspector
and many building projects, the RCWD needs help keeping an eye on
construction site erosion since eroding soil is a significant contributor to water
pollution. Volunteer Inspectors will be trained at a short workshop and then will
notify the District Inspector when, or if, they see erosion control problems on

Got Geese?
Click helElfor
information from the
Rice Creek
Watershed District
on how homeowners
can discourage
Canadian Geese.

'Every Curb is a
Shoreline'

information from the
Rice Creek
Watershed District
entitled 'Every Curb
is a Shoreline'.

Stormwater
Checklist.

Reduce Run-Off

Click heri: to learn
how resurrected rain
barrels, reduce run-
off & conserve water.

Rain Gardens
of the Anoka
Conservation
District's pamplet on
Rain Gardens.

http://www.centervillemn.com/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={461DEB68-4DF4-493...1 /24/2006
