Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes August 3, 2005 The proposed budget will be supplied to the City Council following the September 7, 2005 Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting. Motion was made by Committee Member Peil, seconded by Committee Member Seeley to request $25,000 from the General Fund to be transferred to Parks & Recreation Committee on an annual basis with this year's requested amount to be used for a play structure at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park. The Parks & Recreation Committee will submit a final budget proposal for the September 14, 2005 City Council Meeting. Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park Play Structure This item was discussed under the 2006 Budget. The committee would like to begin planning for a play structure to be installed in 2006. Frozen Fete des Lacs - Parks & Recreation Possibly Takini! Over Friday Nii!ht Event of Skatini!. Horse Drawn Hayride & Bonfire With the Economic Development Committee in the process of reviewing what direction the committee will take and their role in the community, it is a possibility there will not be a Frozen Fete des Lacs in 2006. EDC has discussed in the past whether the Parks & Recreation Committee would be willing to take over the Friday night event of Frozen Fete des Lacs since that has been well attended in the past. Committee Member Peil stated, in her opinion, having the lake flooded was a waste of time, energy and funds when all the facilities are already available at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park.. Ms. Stephan reminded the committee that at the time of year Frozen Fete des Lacs has been held there has not still been ice available on the rinks at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park. Another reason Friday night's activities were moved to the Anoka County Park was to use the bonfire pit available at the regional park. In the past the bonfire at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park was held in the parking lot, but once the parking lot was paved the fire had to be moved to another location. Committee Member Peil stated she would like to have the bonfire & hayride at one of the committee's annual Skate Nights at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park and suggested the soccer fields might work for a bonfire. The committee will discuss this further at the next scheduled meeting. VB. UPDATES Acorn Creek Park Satellite There were no residents in attendance to verbalize concerns in this matter. This item will be removed from the agenda and the satellite will remain where it is currently placed. Tracie McBride Memorial Park Renovation The committee previously budgeted $30,000 for renovations at this park. A clarification needs to be made as to when the old water tower will come down and a timeline for when renovations can start at the park. 30f5
