<br />Option two is to incorporate the work of hooking the water service to each home's water sy5lem into the <br />City contract. As mentioned above, this would require waivers from each homeowner, On the upside, the <br />homeowners can inclUde this work on their assessment (which is often tax deductible) and finance i1 over <br />several years, n also gelS everyone hooked up in one fail swoop, Construction is done and over with in <br />one season and the neighborhood would be back to normal by the spring. <br /> <br />The homes in these areas are selViced by individual wells. Theses wells should be abandoned. The city may <br />elect to have this abandonment be part of the project or to leave this responsibility to the homeowner in the <br />same manner as stated above, <br /> <br />Lots not yet connected to the City's water system can be seen highlighted in yellow in Figure 2. <br /> <br />BOLT REPLACEMENT <br /> <br />In the late nineties, the City began requiring all water main fittings to be installed w~h corrosion resistant <br />bolts. These fittings indude valves, bends, tees, and hydrants among others. This policy was invoked due <br />to several bolt failures which appeared to be caused by corroded bolts. These bolts were likely <br />compromised by cathodic conditions in the City's predominately clayey soils. <br /> <br />Water main installed before the corrosion resistant bolts were spedfied exists below streets proposed to be <br />rehabilitated w~h this project ~ the city wishes to take a proactive approach to dealing with this issue, <br />they could choose to replace all bolts on existing fittings which fall under streets proposed for rehabilitation, <br /> <br />Sidewalk Improvements <br /> <br />Several streets proposed for rehabilitation have existing sidewalks, while others do not. The City has <br />recently contracted for repairs to the existing sidewalks throughout town. Therefore, sidewalk maintenance <br />will not be a part of this contract.
