City of Centerville <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />September 26, 2007 <br />accomplishments to include: students excelled in achievement, attendance and behavior; <br />outstanding evidence of fiscal accountability; strategic plan completed; quality <br />compensation funded/implemented; Language Arts/reading curricula adopted; world <br />language curricula adopted; and the all-day kindergarten implemented. <br /> <br />Dr. Worner reported that the operating levy referendum money paid for 27 new teaching <br />positions, ten staff and paraprofessionals, textbooks, supplies, activity fee reduction, extra <br />curricular programs, team transportation, an assistant principal, and gifted reinstatement. <br /> <br /> <br />2.Centerville Lions Club - Annual Haunted House <br /> <br />Mr. Terry Sweeney, Lions, requested permission to run the annual haunted house again <br />th <br />this year. He stated this would be the 15 year the Lions have hosted the annual haunted <br />house. <br /> <br />Mayor Capra stated Council’s concerns have been based on the recommendations of the <br />Fire Department. <br /> <br />Mr. Sweeney reported insurance has been obtained. <br /> <br />Councilmember Paar stated that if all the issues are addressed, he sees no reason why the <br />Lions could not do this. <br /> <br />Councilmember Lee inquired as to whether all the issues listed were addressed last year <br />and asked what prompted the additional items on the list. <br /> <br />Mr. Sweeney replied they were not. <br /> <br />Mr. Dave Bruder, Fire Inspector, stated that when he was informed last year that the <br />property would be used, he had time to address only the life safety issues. He commented <br />that this year he had additional time to inspect the house. <br /> <br />Mayor Capra stated that in the event the building is used next year, meeting fire and safety <br />codes would be required. <br /> <br />Mr. Sweeney replied this building would not be used in the future. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Paar, seconded by Council Member Lee, to approve the <br />Centerville Lions Club request to host the Annual Haunted House based on the items <br />listed in the recommendations of the Fire Department and Building Official. All in <br />favor. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />City Attorney Glaser stated this supersedes the first memo and the appropriate measures <br />appear to have been taken. <br /> <br />Page 2 of 7 <br />
