Nearly half of all batteted women report some type of injury as a result of
their victimization. Three out of ten women murdered in the U.S. are the
victims of intimate partner violence.

A domestic violence situation is one of the most dangerous calls
responded to by law enforcement. It is critical that law enforcement
professionals develop and implement programs, policies and practices
that are both safe and effective in meeting the serious and unique
challenges of domestic violence cases. Research shows a
well-coordinated and multidisciplinary approach is one of the more
effective means of reducing domestic violence. Strategies that emphasize
victim safety, while holding offenders accountable, have proven to be one
of the most successful means of intervention.

Alexandra House partners with nearly all law enforcement agencies in the
county, including the Centennial Lakes Police Department and city
prosecutors, to create this kind of response to domestic violence in order
to reduce the incidence of domestic violence in Anoka County while
ensuring the safety of victims and holding offenders accountable.

Your financial support in 2007 was greatly appreciated, and along with
support from Anoka County and other cities we were able to respond to
requests for service from victims of domestic violence in Centerville. I
trust that the City of Centerville will again find merit in our request for
funding and partner with us to ensure that these critical services are
available to your city residents.

Thank you for your consideration. I would be happy to answer any
questions you may have and look forward to meeting with you in person
to further discuss this funding request.

Sincerely,

~fr)~

Connie Moore
Executive Director

(

$
